Bodriggy Brewing Company
BODRIGGY BECOMES CARBON NEUTRAL

We’re proud to announce that we're the first independent brewery to go Carbon Neutral–both as an organisation and brewery–in Victoria.

Coming off the back of a two year accreditation process with Pangolin Associates, measuring and understanding our footprint is even more important now than when we started. Our goal is to reduce our emissions by a further 30% by 2030.

Since Bodriggy’s inception eight years ago, we’ve encountered a global pandemic and a rising climate crisis. Our values and that of our customers have evolved. We’ve set our sights to match the higher stakes.

Where are our emissions?
Organisation
Advertising & Office 2.3%

Advertising & Office:

We are learning how we can close the loop on some essential office supplies by looking into Green Collect to recycle supplies such as stationary, IT and electrical equipment.

X
Employees 3.9%

Employees:

We encourage staff to walk or ride to work where possible. Our staff will be involved and updated on all sustainability efforts, it is our hope that everyone working for Bodriggy will be passionate about reaching our 2030 goal and reducing our footprint by 30%.

X
Professional Services 7.6%

Professional Services:

A mix of maintenance and servicing across the venue, including the kitchen and the brewery. As we research into better technologies we can see paths to reduce these emissions further. This is a work in progress.

X
Electricity 25.5%

Electricity:

Our goal is to be using 100% green energy for all our electricity across the whole organisation.

X
Food & Beverage 19.9%

Food & Beverage:

Due to nature and tradition of Latin American cuisine, meat is a spotlight on our menu and therefore contributes to a large part of our emissions. We ensure we use every party of an animal when prepped + are looking at how we can reduce our meat items. We only work with local and sustainable wholesalers.

X
Products, Materials & Equipment 1.6%

Products, Materials & Equipment:

As part of a brewery & bar there isn't much we can reduce in terms of glassware & equipment for maintenance. We order our glass locally from a family owned business to reduce the freight km's. We will continue to research further into how we can minimise our footprint here and continue looking at areas we might be able to improve.

X
Stationary Fuels 12.2%

Stationary Fuels:

Natural gas accounts for the majority of this percentage, we are currently looking into options in the brewery to reduce our gas usage.

X
Synthetic Greenhouse Gases 5.2%

Synthetic Greenhouse Gases:

We look to have energy efficient equipment in the kitchen and the brew bar that is regularly checked to ensure its running effectively.

X
Water / Waste 21.7%

Water / Waste:

A a brewery water waste is inevitable, however we are working to reduce this as much as possible. Our first step to tackle this problem will be to purchase a CIP (Clean In Place) Kit for the brewery. A CIP kit will reuse a cleaning solution (mixed with water) so we use less water to clean more tanks.

X
Product
Raw Materials 11.4%

Raw Materials:

These are your beer ingredients, our brewers work hard to ensure little to no wastage is made during the brewing and packaging of your froff. Carbon Dioxide makes up a large portion of these emissions, we are looking into multiple options to get these emissions down, keep an eye out on our socials for brewery updates.

X
Production & Packaging 24.4%

Production & Packaging:

We are always looking into greener options for our packaging. The cans we use are made from 50% recycled material, the tape and packaging is from BioGone and any soft plastic used is recycled by Reground. As of April 30th 2024, we have diverted 1,340kg of soft plastic to be recycled into new products instead of ending up in landfill.

X
Freight of Materials & Packaging 0.6%

Freight of Materials & Packaging:

We will be looking into the possibility of getting a silo on site for our malted barley (if space allows) which will reduce the amount of deliveries substantially.

X
Business Operations (Brewing) 49.2%

Business Operations (Brewing):

This accounts for our downstream emissions, our beer going to our customers. This is a work in progress, we will be looking at ways we can reduce these, but for now please help us out by making sure you recycle your cans and any beer can clips can be brought back to the brewery to be reused.

X
Transport to Customer 1.9%

Transport to Customer:

These are the emissions for our warehousing and delivery. Although a little outside of our control we hope we can encourage these companies to start looking into electric fleets for all deliveries.

From managing our brewery water waste to acknowledging the emissions our Brewpub food menu contributes to, our recent accreditation has shone a light on how we can improve in every facet of the business; how we can minimise our impact; how we can contribute positively to our community. There’s a lot for us to learn on the way and we intend to be transparent about all of it. Click our report button below to see how we stacked up last year.
